Dr. Michael Velling, DDS

Dr Michael Velling was born in Seattle, and grew up in suburban Chicago. He returned to Seattle to attend the University of Washington. Then, back to Chicago’s Northwestern University for Dental School, and a 2 year residency at the University of Michigan. His heart still being in the beautiful outdoors of Seattle, he came out to settle in Federal Way over 25 years ago. Dr. Velling has participated in several dental missionary trips to Israel, Columbia, Belize and Mexico. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys art, sand sculpture, dance, travel, physical fitness, and being a grandpa. Frances, his lovely wife, shares his interests as well as having 2 grown children, is a painter, and artist in all walks of life.
Education is a way of life as a responsible practitioner, even after dental school and a residency. His background has been enhanced by additional study in Cosmetics, Implants, Crown and Bridge, Sedation for fearful patients, Dentures, Children’s Dentistry, Occlusion and TMD, and Interdisciplinary Comprehensive Care. Continuing dental education, participating in study clubs, and numerous professional dental organizations will always be a necessary part of his practice to maintain a high level of competence in dentistry.
Dr Velling attributes much of his passion for dentistry from 3 things: 1) An avid interest of working with his hands in art and sculpture; 2) The education and ongoing changes in dentistry stimulate interest and growth; 3) and, finally, our wonderful staff and patients keep it fun and interesting.
